Welcome to the Bloomington ISD Website. Bloomington ISD is small 3-A district in southeast Texas serving about 900 students from grades pre-kindergarten through grade twelve. Our district has one high school, one junior high school, one elementary school and one primary school serving Bloomington, Placedo, and DaCosta. Our mission is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment where parents and educators work to make a positive difference in the hearts and minds of all students so that they may achieve their highest potential in becoming productive citizens. Our goal is to provide engaging, appropriate experiences for students so that they learn and are able to apply their knowledge in ways that will enrich their lives and ensure their well-being.
Facts about Abbie James Barnett
Abbie James Barnett was born and raised in Cuero, Texas. He is the second to the youngest of 12 children. He was the first of the twelve to graduate college. Abbie was a standout athlete for the Gobblers and was fortunate to compete in multiple sports at the state championship level. Abbie also served as student council President his junior and senior year at Cuero High School. Abbie graduated from Cuero High in 1987 and went on to play football and run track for Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. He earned recognition at Sam Houston State as both an All-Conference and All-Academic performer for the Bearkats football team. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Corrections from Sam Houston State and his Masters of Education in Instructional Leadership from University of Houston-Victoria. He then completed his Superintendents Certification from the University of Lamar in Beaumont, Texas.
He began his career in education as a Special-education teacher and a coach. He started his first ever teaching and coaching job in Bloomington ISD. He taught all core subjects his first year and coached football, cross country, basketball and track. He would later be promoted to Athletic Director and Head football coach. He served in this role for three years and was able to share in some major successes in Bobcat athletics. He would leave BISD and work as a coach in Fort Bend County, Edna ISD and Victoria ISD. During his time in VISD, he was able to complete his Administrative Degree and serve as Special Populations Coordinator, and then Assistant Principal at Mitchell Guidance Center, Stroman Freshman Academy and Victoria West High School. He would then get the opportunity to return to BISD, as the Placedo Elementary Principal. Abbie would then be promoted to be the Principal of Bloomington Middle School before being selected to serve as the Superintendent of BISD schools in 2017. Abbie is married to Faye Barnett and they have three daughters Erica, Abby and Imani. They are all awesome people and the joy of his life.
